Cool Invention: Jim Wight Thursday Sept 28, 2006
Concept:
A boat or ship that spans more than one wave has portions of the boat or extensions that can float independently in the water. Imagine an inverted cylinder-piston device where the piston is buoyant attached to the side of the ship. As a wave passes along-side the ship the piston is forced up and down to preform work. It could also work through the capture of water. Consider a cylinder that fills with water as a wave passes. Once full the water is forced out through a turbine that generates power. It could also work in reverse . Another method to capture the energy of the waves would be to use inverted pistons in the cylinders to create a mechanical engine.
